John Marshall and the Early Supreme Court

Professor Gary Hylander will be back in December for a three-part series on James Marshall and the Supreme Court. Marshall was the longest-serving Chief Justice and a member of the Court for over thirty years. Many of his decisions are still having an effect today. For example, in McCulloch v. Maryland, Marshall said that Congress possessed unenumerated powers not explicitly outlined in the Constitution. Registration required.
