The Richards Memorial Library (North Attleborough) seeks to maintain a safe and healthy atmosphere in which patrons and staff can be free from harassment, intimidation, and threats to their safety and well-being. In order to protect all library users' right of access to library facilities, to ensure the safety of users and staff, and to protect library resources and facilities from damage, the following code of behavior is expected by patrons and library staff:
- Patrons and staff will treat everyone with respect.
- Disruptive behavior, including but not limited to violence, loudness, lewd conduct, brandishing weapons, intimidating behavior, or inappropriate use of technology, is not permitted. The library staff may determine what conduct constitutes disruptive behavior.
- Illegal activities are prohibited on library property.
- No food or alcoholic beverages are allowed anywhere in the library. Covered non-alcoholic beverages are allowed in the library except at the public computers.
- The building and grounds are tobacco-free and smoke-free. Vaping and e-cigarettes are prohibited.
- Patrons must refrain from blocking entrances, exits, and aisles.
- Canvassing, selling, soliciting, or distributing materials is prohibited.
- Only service animals and library-approved animal programs are permitted on library property. No animals may be left unattended.
- Children's Room spaces are reserved for our young patrons and their guardians.
Damage to the library building, property, or library materials is punishable by law (Mass. Gen. Laws, Ch. 266, ยง100).
Failure to adhere to this policy may result in the limitation or loss of library privileges by the library director or designees.
Library Code of Conduct revised and approved by the RML Board of Library Trustees, March 17, 2026.
