Local author, podcaster, and sports historian, Ian Kahanowitz will be talking about his new book on an infamous baseball scandal. The Dutch Leonard Affair was the third most cognizable scandal for a betting incident in Major League Baseball history. Yet it is never as publicized or well known as the Black Sox scandal of 1919 or the removal of Pete Rose from Major League Baseball for gambling on baseball games during the 1980’s.
The scandal itself was well covered by the press during the off season of 1926 to 1927. It became the biggest news event throughout the country and every major newspaper covered the story.
The participants in the whole affair included: Baseball Icons: Ty Cobb and Tris Speaker, ex Major Leaguer, Joe Wood, American League President Ban Johnson and Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis.
This is the first book written on the subject and how the affair changed baseball forever.
